Harry to cane his big-race opponents on Cyrname
HARRY COBDEN’S decision to partner CYRNAME (3.05, nap) in today’s Ladbrokes King GeorgeVI Chase at Kempton can be truly vindicated.
Cobden, 21, a wise head on young shoulders, had the option of re-uniting with last year’s winner Clan Des Obeaux. He admitted it was a tough call, but it is worth pointing out that Cobden raised a few eyebrows last year when opting for Clan Des Obeaux over his better fancied stable companion Politologue.
Cyrname became the highestrated jumper after his success at Ascot in February and highlighted that status when puncturing Altior’s winning sequence of 19 victories at the same course last month.
Paul Nicholls, seeking a record 11th victory in the race, is also responsible for Clan Des Obeaux, who is the one for the forecast.
He needed the outing on his return at Down Royal last month when chasing home Road To Respect. In last year’s race he had Thistlecrack back in second place and can confirm that running.
Connections of Thistlecrack, the 2016 winner, have high hopes of
Lostintranslation.This big slab of a horse is clearly progressing but his victory over Bristol De Mai at Haydock last month flatters him.
Footpad attempts to end a barren spell in this contest for his trainer Willie Mullins – last a winner here with Florida Pearl in 2001.
Footpad certainly cannot be overlooked. He was a smart novice last season and at 10-1 is worth having a couple of quid on.
