STAR SURANNE’S ON BOARD FOR NUCLEAR SUBMARINE DRAMA

-

A THRILLER about the disappearance of a Scottish fishing trawler starring Gentleman Jack’s Suranne Jones is set to grip BBC One viewers soon.

The makers of Line Of Duty and Bodyguard are due to start filming the six-part series calledVigil In Scotland in the spring.

Other stars lined up are Game Of Thrones’ Rose Leslie and Endeavour’s Shaun Evans.

The programme will link the story of the missing trawler with a death on board a Trident nuclear submarine. Police come into conflict with the Navy and security services as Suranne leads an investigation into a conspiracy that “threatens the very heart of Britain’s nuclear deterrent”, according to the BBC.

The actress said: “Vigil is a thrill of a story, set in a world I knew nothing about. It feels fresh and relevant and I can’t wait.”

Piers Wenger, controller of BBC Drama, said: “Vigil is a fantastic, adrenalised thriller set in a shadowy world which has stakes for us all.”

A ONE-OFF Friends TV reunion is in the balance because its stars are arguing over money, it was reported yesterday.

Bosses in the US want to get the six characters of the show together for a special.

But there is a “big, eight-figure gap” between what they want and what the studio is willing to pay, according to the US website Deadline.

Kevin Reilly, at HBO Max which wants to broadcast the show, said: “There is interest all around and yet we can’t get the interests all alighted to push the button on it. Today it’s just maybe.”

But the news that there are talks over a special will delight millions of fans around the world.

HBO Max is a new streaming service that will launch in the US in May and a Friends reunion could bring in millions of dollars worldwide.

Surprised

Speaking on The Ellen DeGeneres Show in November, Jennifer Aniston suggested a potential Friends project with Courteney Cox, Lisa Kudrow, Matt LeBlanc, Matthew Perry and David Schwimmer.

Jennifer said: “I would love for there to be something, but we don’t know what that something is. So we’re just trying. We’re working on something.”

The star, 50, who played Rachel, surprised her 23 million Instagram followers on Sunday by sharing a photo with former Friends co-stars Cox, 55, who played Monica, and Kudrow, 56, who was Phoebe. “Hi from the girls across the hall?” Jennifer captioned the image.

Friends, created by David Crane and Marta Kauffman, aired on NBC in the US from 1994 to 2004 and ran for 236 episodes.

It was screened on Channel 4 in the UK from 1995 and was repeated on E4 before moving to Comedy Central before a big-money deal was struck with Netflix.
