WILDER TICKS OFF McBURNIE FOR THE STRIKER’S ANTICS IN CROWD... AND HIS GOLD COAT

- By David Anderson

OLI McBURNIE has received a dressing down about his behaviour and fashion sense.

Sheffield United manager Chris Wilder has spoken to the club’s record £20million signing after the FA warned the striker about his conduct following a rude gesture he made to Cardiff supporters during Sunday’s South Wales derby.

McBurnie, who was among fans of his former team Swansea, escaped punishment after taunting the home crowd.

But Wilder appears more bothered by the Scot’s garish gold £450 Stone Island jacket.

“I’ve spoken to him,” said the Blades boss.

“We received a letter from the FA talking about Oli’s future conduct, which is quite right I believe.

“They are red-hot on stuff like that, so for them not to take any other action speaks volumes for what it was. I should imagine he got plenty [of stick] at that game.

“He didn’t really go in camouflage. I’m not mentioning the jacket, that’s already been done.

“People have talked about it. It’s not something I would wear. He managed, in his opinion, to carry it off.

“We’ve talked about it and he has a responsibility as a footballer, especially with all the cameras everywhere, that he can’t get involved.”

Wilder claims it is a positive that McBurnie, who netted the winner against

West Ham last Friday, still follows the Swans.

The Blades boss also used to watch his beloved Sheffield United when he was working for other teams. “I can relate to that,” said Wilder. “There was a time when I was a player and a manager at other clubs, I would rush back to Sheffield to go and watch United home or away. “I’ve got no problem with him going to watch Swansea. He’s got an obvious connection with them from when he was a young player down there.

“He made many great friends there. It’s quite refreshing that he wants to go and watch games of football, he wants to be involved in football. “As far as I’m concerned, we move on. “The boy has been in form, he got the winner last week. “It was a big weekend for him and maybe he got a touch carried away. “But going to watch his team, I’m OK with that.”
