I buried my crash victim love on day we were to marry

- By Jan Disley

A HEARTBROKEN bride-to-be told yesterday how she buried her 27-year-old fiance on the day they were due to be married.

Instead of walking down the aisle to wed Tony Lawson, Danielle Deegan was following his coffin.

Tony, fromWallasey, Merseyside, was killed when his motorcycle was in a collision with a car in north Wales in July 2017.

The motorist was later cleared of causing death by careless driving at Caernarfon Crown Court.

Three weeks after the tragedy Danielle, also 27, was joined by hundreds of mourners to say goodbye to the love of her life.

She said: “We had a reception booked – instead we used it for a wake.We made it a celebration.

“My dad, Tony’s best man and Tony, all had their wedding suits on, so it was comforting in that way.We still had that day for us.

“I stood there at one point and just thought, look at the impact he’s had – and he was only 27.”

Crazy

And Tony’s legacy continues to help others after Danielle set up a Facebook group to aid other women in a similar position.

Danielle, an NHS worker, said: “The person involved was found not guilty in the end, but obviously there was the whole investigation, the court process – and it’s all unique to the people who are going through it.

“There were so many times I felt quite alone, because no one knew exactly how I was feeling.

“The police do help to a degree and obviously there are charities that help as well.

“But unless you’ve experienced it yourself, you can’t share that with anyone else.

“So that’s what I want to do, to be able to help people who are also going through it.

“Now I’m in a better place, I want to help others get to a better place as well.”

Danielle has set up a private Facebook page, a safe space where women across Merseyside can talk openly about how they feel and how their lives been affected by their loss.

She said: “If something like this had existed when Tony died it would have been a huge help.

“I’m a big believer in a problem shared is a problem halved.

“I’ve not stopped myself talking about it, because the longer you leave it the harder it gets.

“If you talk about it from day one, it relieves a bit of the pain.”

She revealed: “Because of his bike, we had had the conversation about ‘What if you go out and die have
