We could never match Fergie’s time at the top

KLOPP SAYS IT’S TOO HARD NOW

JURGEN KLOPP does not believe his Liverpool side can ever match the all-conquering dominance of Sir Alex Ferguson’s Manchester United.

Klopp’s team are a shoo-in for their first Premier League crown, leading the way by 14 points.

They face United at Anfield tomorrow but the Liverpool boss insists the football landscape has changed completely since Ferguson, below, won the title 13 times.

“I don’t think it is possible to get to their level of dominance ever again,” said Klopp.

“It is now more likely the other clubs will compete for different things because of the financial power of a lot of teams.”

Ferguson won an unmatched 38 major trophies before retiring in 2013. Klopp has lifted the Champions League and the Club World Cup with Liverpool and is now set to add the Premier League to his haul.

With the money available to Klopp’s rivals, clubs such as United, Manchester City and Chelsea can spend big next summer to close the gap that has opened up this season. “We have made a few good decisions and that is why we have got better and our players are getting better,” he added. “But a team like Leicester has proper power now, too, and that makes it even more difficult.

“I wouldn’t say United in their time won a lot of games 4-0 or 5-0, but they were predictable wins. “We’ve won a lot 1-0 or 2-1 and had to really dig in to do so.” Klopp revealed that he has both Fabinho and Joel Matip back for the visit of United, while Dejan Lovren will return to full training on Monday.
