Dark side of the room
ONE of the best places for home interiors ideas is Pintrest, which is why B&Q has trawled through the social media platform to research its 2020 Kitchen Trends Report. Based on UK Pintrest users’ searches over the past year, we’re heading for the dark side.
Midnight blue kitchen searches were up 45 per cent and there’s a trend towards burgundy colours – or “Merlot Magic”.
Searches for brass or bronze accessories such as handles, taps and lighting are up by about a third and these go well with dark colours says B&Q, which has just launched GoodHome kitchens – its first new kitchen range in 10 years.
Show-off shelving will be big in the coming decade, too, it says, particularly shelves with integrated lighting (although shelves behind glass doors are easier to keep clean).
For those who prefer neutral colours
– and Pintrest searches for stone accessories are up 40 per cent – kitchens inspired by natural materials could replace white and cream-coloured units and work surfaces.
Space savers will always be in fashion, though, and some of the GoodHome accessories are very clever.
Its Romesco sink has a chopping board cover to create a bigger worktop and Pebre pull-out storage shelves give better access to hard-to-reach cabinets.
But if you’re thinking of buying a new kitchen consider ditching cabinets for deep drawers where you can store pans, dried food or piles of crockery with easy access, no matter how stiff your back becomes in later life.
