PICKS OF THE DAY

-

Comedy: The Last Leg, C4, 10pm

Hard to believe that this show is rapidly approaching its 20th series. It does not seem five minutes since the boys – Adam Hills, Alex Brooker and Josh Widdicombe (left) – gatecrashed our Friday night viewing and made their little show required viewing. As usual tonight, they are joined by a famous face to digest, make sense of and poke fun at the week’s main headlines from around the world. Remember, nobody is safe from the Last Leggers.

Comedy: The Goes Wrong Show, BBC1, 8.30pm

The Cornley Polytechnic Drama Society undertakes a period romance, a classic tale of family, duty and love across the class divide. A set built to replicate a grand country home is soon to be rocked by a literal and metaphorical storm. Sadly, the literal storm involves a water effect that threatens to flood the set, while a horse turns out to be more of a danger to body parts than expected. David Hearn (above, centre) stars.

Cookery: Jamie And Jimmy’s Friday Night Feast, C4, 8pm

Sitting in the corner of the Caribbean Sea is the island of Nevis. We are invited on a culinary journey there tonight with Jamie Oliver, Mel B and Jimmy Doherty (all left) tonight. We actually do not leave the lovely surroundings of Southend but former Spice Girl Mel is transported back to her Grandma Iris’s house every time she eats one of her favourite dishes – curry chicken, rice and peas. Together, the trio cook up their version of it tonight. Away from the pier, the boys become cowboys for the day, putting in a shift farming British buffalo to make mozzarella. Jamie puts a spin on the traditional Friday night takeaway with a mushroom

Soap: Coronation Street, ITV, 7.30pm & 8.30pm

The look on Fiz’s face says it all. The police call at No.9 and explain they want to question her (Jennie McAlpine, above) about an assault on Jade. Daniel urges Bethany to spread her wings and apply for a place on a creative writing course while Maria overhears Gary on the phone saying, “You know I love you” she immediately thinks the worst. Another quiet night on the cobbles then.

Entertainment: Would I Lie To You? BBC1, 9pm

Tom Allen (right), Geoff Norcott, Vicki Pepperdine and Esme Young join host Rob Brydon and regular captains David Mitchell and Lee Mack on the comedy panel show. As usual, the participants set out to hoodwink their opponents with absurd facts and plausible fibs about themselves in a bid to secure a team victory, through rounds including Home Truths and Quick-fire Lies. You cannot beat a bit of Would I Lie To You? to round off a busy week with a few giggles.
