PICKS OF THE DAY

-

Travel: Our Coast, BBC2, 8.30pm

The stretch between Belfast and Strangford Lough, along the Ards Peninsula, in Co Down comes under the spotlight from Adrian Chiles (left) and Mehreen Baig. Later, in the Northern Irish capital, Chiles road-tests the largest hydraulic crane in the world and helps park a 100-metrelong Dutch cargo ship. Plus, Helen Skelton tests the waters of the North Channel and local comedian Shane Todd visits a long-established bespoke racing-car factory.

Soap: Coronation Street, ITV, 7.30pm

Maria Connor and Gary (Samia Longchambon and Mikey North, both above) announce their engagement to a muted reception. Sarah’s amazed by the news while Ali puts on a brave face in public and shakes Gary’s hand but he has more to say later. Elsewhere, Chesney panics when Joseph goes missing and, after spending the night with Kevin, Abi’s cautious about confusing Jack.

Transport: The Yorkshire Steam Railway: All Aboard, Channel 5, 8pm

Loveable ticket inspector Bert Blower sounds like the central character of a heartwarming children’s story set on the Yorkshire railways. Mr Blower (left) though, is actually a real person and he is one of the many people profiled in this new series taking a behind-thescenes look at the North York Moors Railway. As we return to the rails we see that Piglet’s been promoted but seems to spend more time in his overalls than behind his desk as he grapples with an old American war-horse, the S160 Omaha. Blower has a new trainee, and “king of the carriages” Kieran awaits a Flying Scotsman carriage returning to the railway after being vandalised.

Comedy: The Last Leg, C4, 10pm

Adam Hills, Josh Widdicombe and Alex Brooker (all above) are joined by comedian Jon Richardson, the driest of the dry in terms of his sense of humour, for an offbeat review of the significant moments of the past seven days around the world. As usual, #isitok paves the way for the gang to round up, examine and explain the leading and most entertaining news stories of the week.

Film: From Russia With Love, ITV4, 8pm

This is one of the best Bond movies of all time starring arguably one of the best Bond actor of them all. In his second outing as 007, Sean Connery (right) lights up the screen. Bond is sent to steal a top-secret Soviet decoding machine and ends up helping its operator defect to the West. However, he discovers the mission is really a trap set by international crime syndicate Spectre, and struggles to evade his would-be assassins. Robert Shaw co-stars.
