Richard so rudey to Ant and Dec

- By Steph Spyro

RICHARD and Judy roll in to meet Ant and Dec in a clash of the TV titans.

The hilarious segment, broadcast on ITV yesterday, led to Richard threatening to twice walk out.

He and wife Judy, 71, were making a triumphant return to This Morning when they jumped into a buggy and rode to Ant and Dec’s nearby Saturday Night Takeaway studio.

The trip quickly descended into chaos as driver Richard, 63, joked: “I’d better make sure I don’t run down the cameraman.”

Daily Express columnists Richard and Judy found Ant and Dec preparing for a new series of Takeaway, which starts at 7 tonight. After the foursome sat down to chat, Richard jokingly complained about not being in the duo’s promotional clip for their prank game Get Out Me Ear.

Rising from his seat, Richard told them, “Right, I’m walking off,” before sitting down again. Later he randomly asked Ant and

Dec, both 44: “What do you think about fish pie?” They burst into laughter as Richard explained that the next segment was about making fish pie. He then joked he’d walk off again. His and Judy’s turn as stand-in hosts follows their original run from 1988 to 2001. Ant and Dec – full names Anthony McPartlin and Declan Donnelly – are also making a return after a year off so Dec could deal with alcohol issues. Yesterday he admitted to being nervous, saying: “I’ve got a TV in my bedroom with a little red standby light on it. I wake up and I see that light and I’m like, ‘Oh, we’re on. I’m not ready!’”

JBACK in early January I ordered a cheap, pretty summer dress from an internet shopping site based I knew not where. I’m still new to internet shopping and expected it would take a week or so for my dress to arrive.A fortnight ago I chased the website up about my no-show frock.

I got this rather sweet, apologetic reply from the customer service department: “Our holiday was extended based on the current coronavirus pneumonia situation and we sorry our customer service team are unable to timely reply.”

A-ha! My dress was from China. So not only was the coronavirus responsible for a shortage of iPhones, it had also laid waste to my frock.

It finally arrived yesterday. Richard recounted my dress’s perilous journey to a doctor friend. Should we quarantine it? Well, she smiled, maybe disinfect the package before opening.

Sadly these wise words came too late and the dress is now hanging in my wardrobe, where for all I know it is stealthily infecting all my other clothes. I certainly hope it kills a few moths.

Meanwhile the Diamond Princess, moored off Japan to keep its passengers in quarantine, has been treated as a plague ship. The quarantine clearly hasn’t worked as at least 621 people have been infected on board. It’s become a floating incubator.

All this panic is ridiculous. coronavirus does kill, but very few, very rarely. In other words it’s like flu and if we quarantined everyone in the UK who’d been near a flu victim this winter the British economy would grind to a halt.

Perhaps our poor quarantined coronavirus victims, chafing against restraint, should know aboutTyphoid Mary.An Irish cook, Mary Mallon, emigrated to the US in 1884 where she worked for various affluent families, and although always healthy herself, infected several with typhoid. Deemed a carrier, Mary was quarantined for 30 years and died, still in confinement, at the age of 69.

Our quarantinees should perhaps be grateful they don’t live in 19th-century New York.

?? ?? THANKS to everyone for all the lovely comments about one of our occasional returns to our old TV alma mater “This Morning” yesterday. We had as much fun doing it as you seem to have had watching, and we agree with what many of you said – Ant and Dec were a hoot! We’ll do another one soon, we hope, just for fun!
