2 years on, special Kay is back for dance tour

- By Chris Riches

COMEDIAN Peter Kay is returning to the stage, two years after cancelling his last tour.

Peter, 46, is starring in six Dance For Life charity shows this spring.

The “dance-a-thon” events see audience members take to a dance floor, with Peter on the record decks as host “DJ PK”.

The Phoenix Nights star previously hosted 14 of the three-hour specials before taking time out of showbusiness.

He revealed yesterday he is returning to the stage with a six-date Dance For Life tour for Cancer Research.

The Bolton-born comic said: “I’ve honestly never had so much fun as I had working on Dance For Life.

“The atmosphere was so happy and positive. It really is a great way to raise money for the worthiest of causes.

“All people have to do is turn and dance.”

Peter had devastated fans when he axed his sold-out Have Gags, Will Travel tour in December 2017.

He also put a hold on all future appearances due to “unforeseen family circumstances”.

In April 2018, he appeared at a live charity screening of his

Car Share TV show in Blackpool.

He last performed live during the We Are Manchester charity concert in September 2017, which officially re-opened the Manchester Arena.

The new Dance

For Life tour will up visit Liverpool’s M&S Bank Arena, London’s Alexandra Palace and the Manchester Central Convention Complex.

Since his self-imposed hiatus, Peter has rarely been seen in public, but has been involved in promoting charity events.

Last December, he was photographed for the first time in eight months when he made an impromptu appearance at a Peter Pan panto at the Crewe Lyceum Theatre. He joined X Factor star Chico and comedy legends Cannon and Ball backstage for pictures and a chat.

He was then seen at the final performance of Nativity! The Musical in London.

Peter recently revealed he is planning a movie version of cult comedy show Phoenix Nights.

He said: “People always ask, will there be more Phoenix Nights?

“I can now confirm there will not. But I am thinking of a film.”
