Our speedy delivery just popped out on the M60

- By News Reporter By Ralph Blackburn

THIS hippo with an appetite stunned drivers when it turned up for a late night visit to a petrol station.

In an amazing video shot on Sunday, the hippo can be seen casually walking onto the forecourt of a garage in St Lucia, KwaZulu-Natal, South Africa.

Garage owner Anel Snyman said: “This is quite normal in St Lucia, especially in the streets further from the main road.

“The hippos really just roam around and mind their own business.”

True to form, the latest hippo to visit wandered off without troubling motorists.

LITTLE Jasper Taylor has a motorway junction listed as his place of birth after arriving suddenly on the front seat of his parents’ car as they headed to hospital.

Hannah Pickup, 34, began having contractions as partner Matthew Taylor made for the exit of the M60.

But she realised their baby was arriving earlier than they expected and Jasper appeared as they passed the Clifton Interchange, south of Manchester.

Hannah said: “I looked at the junction and thought we’re still 10 minutes away and then all of a sudden he was out.

“It all happened so quickly we didn’t have time to panic. I was pretty concerned as I didn’t know what to do, but my natural instinct took over. Bizarrely everything was quite calm.”

“He started crying and breathing so I knew he was OK,” veterinary nurse Hannah said.

And when it came to issue Jasper’s certificate, under the place of birth it states: “M60 Junction 16 on the way to Ingleside, Oakwood Park, Salford.”

Despite Jasper’s sudden arrival last month, nurses at Ingleside maternity unit told Hannah she had delivered a healthy 9lb

2oz boy.

They were allowed to take him back to their home in Ramsbottom, Greater Manchester, that night to introduce him to his one-year-old brother Bruce.

Hannah says she had assumed it would be similar to Bruce’s birth, when she spent three days in labour. Jasper’s took half an hour.

“When he’s older he’ll be known as the baby born on the M60,” she said.
