Klopp: City’s huge win at Real proves it is not a poor league

- By Chris McKenna

JURGEN KLOPP says he “couldn’t care less” about claims that the Premier League is weak this season.

Liverpool go to Watford today 22 points clear of Manchester City and need just four more league wins to clinch their first title in 30 years.

Their huge lead has led to talk this is a poor season with City off the pace and Tottenham, Arsenal, Chelsea, and Manchester United all in transition. But Klopp, inset, pointed to City’s 2-1 Euro win away to Real Madrid on Wednesday as a sign of the Premier League’s strength. The Liverpool manager said: couldn’t care less. Look, it completely normal.

“I don’t think we should have any concern for things like this. If other people think like that –

“I is if they think City are not as good as they were – they are.

“They have scored a little less goals than us, conceded a few more, and if you look why it is clear they have been missing some players.

“The other teams are really strong too. Yes, Bayern beat Tottenham and Chelsea [in the Champions League] but they are really strong over a season, unbelievably strong. Yes, they

have had some problems, that’s all true. But in the moment you play them you don’t feel they have these problems. “We have no influence on their points, apart from when we play them. These games are proper games whether it is Tottenham, Chelsea,Arsenal, City or United.

“They are proper games and that is all clear and we had to win them and we did most of the time so far but it was always difficult.

“So it says nothing about the quality of the Premier League, especially when you look at City versus Real Madrid.

“I know that people look at these things and you saw that one of the best teams in the world maybe in the moment and City were clearly better so that shows as well how strong the league is.”

Despite being on the brink of history, skipper Jordan Henderson has banned title talk in the Liverpool dressing room to keep them focused.

Klopp added: “It’s not me, I didn’t know Hendo had banned that. It is just how we see it. It is just focusing on the next game.”
