JOE ROOT believes his young guns have what it takes to build on their stunning win in South Africa and meet their Sri Lanka challenge head on.

The England captain was delighted by the performances of Dom Sibley, Ollie Pope and Zak Crawley with the bat and Dominic Bess with the ball as they triumphed 3-1 in the Test series against the Proteas.

“There will be more expectation on their shoulders to keep improving and putting in big performances.”

Arum had insisted Pulev would not travel to the UK because “we don’t get a level playing field” and claimed the fight would go to purse bids.
