THE FINAL GOODBYE: Harry and Meghan’s poignant parting with The Queen
MEGHAN has joined the Queen for the first time since she and Prince Harry revealed they were quitting as senior Royals.
The Duke and Duchess of Sussex were pictured driving from the Royal Chapel in Windsor Great Park yesterday after attending a service with his grandmother.
It marked the first time the 93-year-old monarch and Meghan have met since the couple’s announcement on January 6.
It is understood Her Majesty wanted to support Harry, 35, and 38-year-old Meghan by inviting them to the service.
A source said: “It was a really sweet gesture that the Queen asked them to church.
“It’s telling in the sense that these two are still her family. And as a family they all love each other.”
Harry and Meghan are fulfilling their final engagements as working Royals – while 10-month-old Archie stays behind in Canada.
They will also join the Queen and other members of the Royal Family for the annual Commonwealth Service at WestminsterAbbey today.
The Sussexes received a long standing ovation at the Mountbatten Festival of Music at the Royal Albert Hall on Saturday evening.
Inspiring
Meghan has had a busy few days after visiting Robert Clack School in Dagenham, east London, on Friday ahead of International Women’s Day yesterday.
The former Suits star uploaded images of her visit to the school where she told students: “No matter how small you might feel, you have a voice and you certainly have the right to speak up for what is right.”
She urged the boys to make sure the women in their lives “are feeling valued and safe and let’s all just rally together to make International Women’s Day something that is not just on Sunday, but frankly feels like every day of the year”.
Meanwhile, the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge marked the day by sharing four photographs of “remarkable and inspiring women we have met over the last year”.
One was taken on their trip to Pakistan in October and pictured women of the SOS Children’s Village of Lahore.
A second was champion swimmer and life-long volunteer coach Eileen Fenton being awarded an MBE by
William in November. Another showed Kate with staff at a maternity unit in a south-west London.
The final image was Holocaust survivor Yvonne Bernstein, 82, and was taken by the Duchess herself.
Mrs Bernstein, who is Jewish, went into hiding as a child in wartime France.
SO IT’S farewell to the Duke and Duchess of Sussex as they complete their final official duties before returning to self-imposed exile in North America. The British public still has great affection for Harry and Meghan. We will miss them. And we will welcome them back if the grass turns out not to be greener in Canada after all.
