I TRIED TO FOCUS… BUT MY THIGHS WERE ON FIRE!

Writer ELIZABETH ARCHER, 27, tries to manifest her dreams using Mantras In Motion

AS I stood in my bedroom with my eyes closed, I tried to focus my mind.

“I let my desire guide me,” I said, bending my knees into a deep squat and framing my heart with my hands. I let out a deep breath.

I was trying the latest wellness trend – Mantras In Motion. Apparently, doing carefully choreographed movements and saying positive mantras can help us attract good things into our lives. And after a week which saw me striding confidently into a networking event only to discover my dress was tucked into my knickers, I felt I could do with manifesting a little good luck. I stretched up, and back down into a squat. “I let my desire guide me,” I said again, visualising myself on a beach in Greece.

I tried to focus on the meaning of the words but was distracted by the burning in my thighs – the squat was really working my quads. I tried the mantra one more time but as I started to intone the sacred words, I heard a snigger. I opened my eyes and saw my boyfriend Conor peeking through the door. “It’s not funny,” I told him. “I’m doing some positive mantras to manifest good things into my life.” He raised a mocking eyebrow and disappeared again. Once I’d finished, I flopped down on the sofa beside Conor. “Do you think you manifested anything positive?” he asked.

“I certainly gave you a good giggle,” I replied. However I’m still waiting for my beach holiday to materialise.
