Rest and be thankful
IF ONE message has come through loud and clear during National Bed Month it’s that sleep is good for us. Getting a proper night’s sleep reduces the risk of dementia, helps us get on with our partners and colleagues, and helps our general health. Bensons For Beds sleep expert Dr Sophie Bostock suggests keeping a sleep diary may help to solve problems. She advises couples to agree a realistic bedtime and says using an alarm clock to keep mobile phones out of the bedroom and avoiding weekend lie-ins will help us all.
WoolRoom, which makes wool-filled duvets and pillows, goes even further with its Clean Sleep campaign: “Sleep itself isn’t enough,” says managing director Chris Tattersall.
“What everyone should be striving for is ‘clean sleep’ – a natural night’s sleep achieved through creating a healthy environment by replacing hidden toxins and man-made, treated fibres with wool; the only natural, sustainable fibre that ensures a good night’s natural rest.”
Meanwhile, an Argos Home survey has found that nearly half of couples would prefer a bed to themselves and most would consider a duvet each.
As for couples who argue over soft or hard mattresses, the Argos Home sleep team recommends the Simba Hybrid Mattress, which has 2,500 conical pocket springs and responsive memory foam.
But sometimes all you need is a little bit of luxury and if 2020’s top bedding trend is anything to go by, linen duvet covers and pillow cases are the way to go.
