Roxy spells out fears for mum
DAY two of isolation and I have already taken to dancing around my bedroom at random intervals.
Perhaps I could learn French? Or master the art of choux pastry? There is a copy of James Joyce’s Ulysses on my shelf that has been bookmarked at page 33 for the past 12 years… maybe I’ll come out the other side a cultured, bilingual master chef. More likely I’ll just binge watch crime documentaries and eat crisps in bed as usual.
Percy (my ancient moggy who point blank refuses to go outside even when there isn’t a global pandemic) is not impressed with my dancing skills. Hey ho.
Your heartwarming tales are also keeping me going and I’m delighted to share some here. Jean Gould, 76, from
A NURSE has shared a heartbreaking letter from her daughter in which she shares her fears about her mother catching coronavirus.
Samantha Bowler, 35, said husband Stephen, 40, found the note from Roxy on her pillow when he checked on her and sister Phoenix, five.
Samantha, a staff nurse from Coventry, West Mids, said: “It melted my heart.
“I wanted to reassure after I read it and tried to find out what she’d heard about the virus at school. She said she’d heard lots of stories.”
Roxy, eight, wrote: “I am worried about my mum and dad. I am scared for my mum because she is a nurse and she could get it.
“My dad is old.” Stephen said: “I was sad she was worried about it and then I laughed because she thought I was old.”
Northumberland had a surprise delivery of precious loo roll.
She tells me: “I’ve had a free doorstep delivery of four toilet rolls from Stephen, my previous window cleaner. He absolutely refused to take any money. He
couldn’t have known that I am in self-isolation as I am unwell with a bacterial chest infection.
“I’m too young to remember the wartime spirit but I believe I witnessed it here.”
Another reader reminded of the Blitz spirit is Shirley Willington, 84, from Wiltshire. She recalls as a five-year-old in 1940 “everybody pulling together”.
And now, she says, “with my younger and older neighbours offering to shop, it is very heartwarming and uplifting.” Indeed.
