BAKE OFF STARS: HELP! WE KNEAD A DOCTOR

- By Elly Blake

BAKE OFF contestants cook up scenes of “utter carnage” in tonight’s episode, with two needing medical treatment.

First to feel the heat on Celebrity Great British Bake Off is Joe Sugg, 28, who slices his finger while making a tray bake.

At first the Strictly Come Dancing finalist appears to be OK but he soon starts to topple at the sight of blood.

As a paramedic arrives, Joe announces: “I chopped the end of my finger off.” While fellow celeb bakers look aghast, he adds: “I might need to sit outside for a bit” – before collapsing in a faint.

The YouTube star quickly regains his flour power – with finger intact.

Later, The One Show host Alex Jones, 44, is hit by shards of glass when her mixing bowl shatters.

She had failed to lock the bowl into her electric mixer during the Show Stopper Challenge. Alex said later: “I say, ‘I’m absolutely fine’ before realising there’s a massive shard of glass sticking out of my hand. I had to go straight off to the paramedic for stitches.

“He said, ‘I’m just going to put in the anaesthetic’ and I was like ‘No, there’s no time for that, I have a Show Stopper to make, just do it!’”

Alex managed to roll with it – and finish the day’s filming. A show source said: “It was utter carnage and there’s been nothing like it in the history of the celebrity specials. It was a shock they could carry on.”

Tonight’s special, in aid of Stand Up to Cancer, also features singer James Blunt and presenter Alison Hammond.

Each show sees four celebrities bid to impress judges Paul Hollywood and Prue Leith with their baking skills.

Joe and Alex certainly rose to the occasion…
