BRITONS BEARING UP UNDER THE STRAIN

- By Chris Riches

IT’S ready, teddy, go as people up and down the country race to find ways to beat the lockdown boredom – and put smiles on neighbours’ faces.

One of the most impressive stunts fur sure features two giant stuffed bears called Ted and Ed who pose in a different scene every day.

So far they have starred in a fake Great British Bake Off, done the ironing, vacuumed the lawn and squeezed into a car for a day trip.

They have also been litter-picking, camping with a tent and stove and loading a cement mixer.Their owners in Stockport, Greater Manchester, are staying anonymous but grateful neighbour Adam Harrison quipped in a tweet: “It’s all I live for currently.”

Martial arts instructor Andrew Baldock and his pal Jason Baird, also in Stockport, have been jogging as Spider-Man to help cheer up children stuck indoors.

Dad-of-five Andrew said: “They absolutely love it.”

In Frodsham, Cheshire, fitness instructor Janet Woodcock, 54, has been exercising her street to classic pop songs.Their routine to theTom Jones song It’s Not Unusual is so popular it has been viewed online two million times.

Janet, who runs a 10-minute exercise session every day, said: “There are lots of elderly people on our street and I put a note around inviting people to come out of their homes at 11am each morning so we could all send positive thoughts to each other.

“One of my neighbours mentioned something about struggling to keep fit during lockdown so I thought why not do a bit of keep fit. “The response has been amazing!” Her daughter ElsaWilliams added: “It’s worth noting our road hardly spoke to each other before all this.”
