THE VIRUS IN BRIEF

PRINCESS Eugenie has delivered fresh fruit and vegetables to NHS staff.

The 30-year-old, inset, shared snaps of dozens of boxes which she dropped off at west London’s Hammersmith Hospital.

Her Instagram caption said she was “so happy” doing her bit to help “all those working on the front line of this pandemic”.

She added: “And thank you to all those who are delivering the produce. You’re all heroes.”

In one snap, the royal was pictured keeping her distance beside healthcare staff receiving the boxes.

BRITISH Gas engineers are now delivering vital supplies door-todoor to help struggling food banks.

The energy provider has partnered with The Trussell Trust after the charity revealed it is struggling to get supplies to those in need.

British Gas hopes its workforce of 6,000 engineers and others across the business will support the delivery of 50,000 food parcels a month, and more than 1,750 staff have volunteered in just 48 hours.

Matthew Bateman, of British Gas, said: “By working with The Trussell Trust we can help get food and other essentials to those who really need it. We are in a unique position to help with our nationwide reach and with the third largest fleet in the UK.”

KATE Garraway’s husband Derek Draper, below, is in intensive care battling coronavirus.

The Good Morning Britain presenter has been forced off the daytime ITV show because she has symptoms and is now self-isolating with her two children.

Kate, 52, is said to be extremely worried about former political adviser and author Derek, 52, who is believed to be seriously ill.

He tested positive for Covid-19 on Monday and has remained in intensive care for the past few days.

A source close to Kate said it has “all happened very fast”.

A CAR was clocked travelling at 132mph on an A-road as police say there has been an increase in speeding during the virus restrictions.

The BMW was caught on the A168 at Asenby, near Thirsk in North Yorks.

Meanwhile, police in North Wales caught a driver travelling at 113mph on the A55 at Northop and another at 101mph on the A5 near Corwen.

Supt Jane Banham, of North Wales Police’s roads policing unit, said: “We have seen some motorists using the roads irresponsibly with highly excessive speeds recorded on key routes and other dangerous offences such as drink and drug-driving.

“Fatal or serious collisions would require the use of the NHS, fire and police – all who are exceptionally busy because of Covid-19.”
