Super family beat virus together

- By Paul Jeeves

FIVE members of the same family have beaten Covid-19 after isolating in separate rooms.

Paul Rennison, 71, and wife Jackie, 72, live with their daughter Keri, 48, and granddaughter Rosie, 25, along with Keri’s fiance Chris Westoby, 56.

Paul fell ill first on the third Sunday of lockdown as he prepared a roast dinner.

Keri, a mental health worker, and Chris, who works in food processing, had been leaving the house to carry out their key worker roles.

But Chris had developed a cough, which is how he believes the virus entered their family home in Hull.

Separate

As Paul’s symptoms persisted, the family took the decision to completely isolate, with Keri and Jackie taking it in turns to check his temperature and oxygen levels. But last month he took a turn for the worse and was admitted to hospital for checks.

Fortunately, his condition improved and he returned home, only for Rosie, Jackie and Keri to develop symptoms.

Each of them isolated in separate rooms and, after 14 days, they have now all beaten the illness.

Chris and Keri had been planning their wedding in July, but that has now been postponed.

Keri said: “There are so many people who have lost their loved ones and been really affected by all this, so to postpone our wedding is nothing really.

“Compared with what could have happened it really doesn’t matter. It’s a positive we’ve been able to lockdown together.

“But the negative is, it’s either myself or Chris who have brought the virus in as key workers.

“There’s that realisation that if we didn’t live in this way my dad might not have got it.”

Meanwhile, a family have laid their “king and queen” to rest after coronavirus claimed two great-grandparents within three days of each other. Pat and Annie Cosnett, both 73, of Middlewich, Cheshire, caught Covid-19 in early April and were treated in hospital.

On April 20, Annie’s situation became critical and, within one hour of being placed on a ventilator, she passed away.

Pat continued to fight for another three days before he also tragically died. Both were buried on May 15. Their granddaughter Katie Lee said: “Our world has been ripped apart. We have lost our king and queen.

“They did everything for us. If anybody was in trouble they were the first to help people out and they never expected anything in return.”

Pat went to hospital on April 6 with stomach pains but had no symptoms of the coronavirus.

But he tested positive for Covid-19, suffered kidney failure and was eventually put on a ventilator.

Annie followed her husband of 55 years into Leighton Hospital on April 10, and her family were told her situation was critical on April 20.

The couple leave behind daughters Kay, Colleen and Ann and son Pat, as well as 16 grandchildren and some 21 great-grandchildren.
