Trump rages at Twitter rebukes
FURIOUS Donald Trump threatened to act against his favourite social media platform yesterday after Twitter warned that two of his posts promoted misinformation.
The US President, arguably Twitter’s most high-profile and prolific user, had claimed postal ballots in America’s November election would lead to a “rigged” ballot.
They were later marked with Twitter warnings saying “Get the facts about mail-in ballots”, with links to articles debunking Mr Trump’s fraud claims.
The warning labels came after days of tweets from Mr Trump about postal voting.
It also coincided with the President’s unsubstantiated allegations against US TV host and former Florida congressman Joe Scarborough.
He has accused Mr Scarborough of being involved in the death of his intern Lori Klausutis in 2001.
The President, who has 80 million followers, frequently uses Twitter to attack opponents and spread conspiracy theories.
But it is the first time Twitter has marked his tweets.
Mr Trump responded, posting: “Twitter is now interfering in the 2020 Presidential Election.
“They are saying my statement on Mail-In Ballots, which will lead to massive corruption and fraud, is incorrect, based on fact-checking by Fake News CNN and the Amazon Washington Post.
“Twitter is completely stifling FREE SPEECH and I as President will not allow it to happen.”
Mr Trump also threatened to “close down” social media sites that he claims are “silencing conservative voices”.
