WITH SUMMER just around the corner, it’s time to start upping your sun protection. Although lockdown means we’re getting less sun than usual, most of us are still spending time outside.

Not only can sun exposure lead to skin cancer, it is also responsible for as much as 90 per cent of skin ageing.

The latest products to hit the market are packed with all sorts of skin benefits, from preventing dark spots to softening wrinkles and come in lightweight gels, easy sprays and even primers so you can wear them alone or under make-up.

Here, we answer your questions on how to find the perfect match for your skin.

QWHY should I bother with an SPF if I am indoors most of the day?

ASTANDARD glass windows typically don’t block UVA rays, which cause ageing. You won’t tan and burn when indoors, but your skin cells will still be damaged.

This is why it is so important to wear sunscreen that protects from a broad range of

UV rays every day.

QSURELY British summers aren’t hot enough to cause any damage?

ATHE sun’s rays can still make their way through the clouds and a new study shows the UK has the same number of cases of skin cancer as Australia.

Using an SPF daily is a necessity as applying sunscreen can save your life and prevent skin damage.

Q AWHY can’t I use my usual body sunscreen on my face?

FACIAL skin is thinner and more vulnerable so you need sun protection that is specific to the face and which suits your skin type, without clogging pores and causing breakouts.

Most facial sunscreens now contain additional beneficial ingredients which protect the delicate skin and which body sunscreens lack.

Q CAN I just use an SPF moisturiser?

AA RECENT study revealed that using a moisturiser with SPF isn’t enough to protect your skin against sun damage and provides less sun protection than the equivalent sunscreen.

Moisturisers penetrate the skin to hydrate it and add moisture, while sunscreens sit on the skin to act as a defence mechanism.

QMY make-up contains an SPF so why do I need extra protection?

ANO matter how high the SPF is in your foundation or concealer it will not protect your skin like proper sun cream. Research shows that we don’t apply make-up thickly enough to receive the level of protection promised by an SPF.

Delhicious Hello Beau-tea-ful Body Scrub, £7.95 (delhiciousbody.com) is an all-natural body scrub inspired by Ayurveda that contains Assam tea. Antioxidants help banish dry skin, fade marks and flush away toxins to give skin a healthy glow. Delhicious also makes a conscious effort to give back, with 10 per cent of profits from each sale donated to Stop The Traffik, which works with India’s tea industry to improve working conditions on plantations, develop new resources to identify trafficking, and provide training to spot signs and respond.

QFACIAL sunscreen irritates my skin, what can I use?

ASUN creams either use chemical filters, which act like a sponge, absorbing UVA and UVB rays, or they use physical filters, called mineral filters, which work like a mirror, reflecting rays off the surface of the skin.
