Girl, 6, cuts out lockdown loneliness with gift for grandparents

- By Nia Price

YOUNG Oriah Hoggett has made sure her beloved grandparents will never be apart from her during lockdown – after delivering a life-size cardboard cutout of herself.

Oriah, six, used to visit Peter and Margaret Lee every day before the coronavirus pandemic struck.

Her grandparents have been missing her terribly so Oriah’s mum Karen had a 4ft image created of the schoolgirl smiling and waving to Margaret, 74, and Peter, 69.

Karen caught the tear-jerking moment on camera as Oriah surprised the couple with the amazing present. The clip has now gone viral on Facebook.

Hilarious photos show how cardboard Oriah goes everywhere with Margaret and Peter.

She joins them for tea, drinks in the garden – and is even tucked up in bed while Margaret reads a story. Karen, of Lowestoft, Suffolk, said: “They’re missing everyone so much and I thought as we can’t really go to them they can have Oriah this way.”

A video shows Oriah crying and saying, “I’m so excited, I’m so excited” in the car as she and Karen deliver the cutout. Karen said: “My mum’s hands went to her mouth and she cried straight away. My dad just had a little tear and a big grin. Margaret said: “I didn’t know whether to laugh or cry.

“I was so shocked because it was so lovely.”

“It’s definitely the best present we’ve received because of the situation we’re in. “She [the cutout] goes everywhere with us.

“If we’re in the lounge I’ll bring her in there with us and if we’re sitting out in the garden she’s either with us or in the conservatory looking out at us.”
