Parents raising the roof
IPROMISED myself I wouldn’t, but I’ve just watched the second episode of BRITAIN’S BEST PARENT? (Channel 4, 8.05pm). In the end I realised it was my professional duty. While my main priority will always be to highlight TV programmes I think you’ll enjoy, I must also keep an eye out for ones that could send your blood pressure soaring if you have the misfortune to stumble upon them.
And for as long as shows such as this remain on air, I simply cannot afford to let my guard down in that respect. I’d never forgive myself.
So, yes, this second episode of
Britain’s Most Self-Satisfied Parent features three more contenders for the title, each so convinced that their “parenting style” is “the best” that they’re prepared to come on prime-time television and have an actual row about it.
It’s not just among themselves, either, but with a studio audience desperate to contribute their two penn’orth. There’s single mum Hannah, who describes herself as “parent-centric”. There’s Nicky and David, who say they’re “trying to raise great people, great leaders”.
And there’s Mia and Adam, who practise “attachment and conscious parenting”.
So don’t say you haven’t been warned.
Elsewhere tonight, we continue another search for the nation’s best something-or-other, only this time in an altogether more enjoyable vein, with round two of BRITAIN’S BRIGHTEST CELEBRITY FAMILY (ITV, 8pm).
Going head to head this week we have two football legends, John Barnes and Matt Le Tissier. (I use the word “legend” here in its modern-day sense, not so much to imply mythical status as to mean “someone who used to play football for a living but doesn’t anymore”).
John is joined by his daughter Jemma and her partner George, apparently eager quizzers. Matt has chosen to be joined by his son Mitch and daughter Keeleigh, figuring this would be “a nice opportunity to have a bit of family bonding”. It’s maybe not the most competitive approach on Matt’s part but it’s a sweet one nonetheless. I’d like to nominate
Matt Le Tissier as Britain’s Best Parent.
Elsewhere, I’m afraid there were no preview copies of UNBELIEVABLE MOMENTS CAUGHT ON CAMERA, back tonight for another run (ITV, 9pm).
But apparently it includes footage of a chap who clung on for dear life to a hang glider after the pilot forgot to attach him.
It’s a sobering reminder that you should always carry your mobile phone with you, in case you stumble upon some poor blighter needing urgent assistance.
And do make a note of which show will pay you best for your footage.
