If looks could kill... it’s Jodie against Glenda for best TV actress Bafta
JODIE Comer and Glenda Jackson will go head-to-head for the leading actress prize at this year’s Baftas.
Jodie, 27, has received another nomination for her performance as assassin Villanelle in Killing Eve which saw her win the award last year.
Two-time Oscar winner Glenda, 84, is up for her portrayal of a woman battling dementia in Elizabeth Is Missing.
The other contenders in the category are Samantha Morton (I Am Kirsty) and Suranne Jones (Gentleman Jack).
Battling it out for the leading actor in a drama award are The Capture’s Callum Turner, Stephen Graham (The Virtues), Takehiro Hira (Giri/Haji), and Jared Harris for Chernobyl. The Sky Atlantic miniseries, based on the 1986 disaster at the Russian nuclear power plant, has most nominations across the categories with 14.
It becomes one of the most-nominated shows ever – tying with Killing Eve last year.
Netflix drama The Crown has seven nominations. Olivia Colman reigned over the third series but missed out on a Bafta nomination for her portrayal of the Queen.
But the show was nominated for the best drama, and there were nods for Josh O’Connor as supporting actor for his role as the Prince of Wales and Helena Bonham Carter for Princess Margaret.
The BBC’s Fleabag, created and starring Phoebe Waller-Bridge, is up for three TV and three craft awards.
Phoebe and Jamie Demetriou from the comedy Stath Lets Flats are the mostnominated stars with three nods each.
Scenes from Gavin & Stacey, Game Of Thrones, Love Island, Line Of Duty, Fleabag, and Coronation Street are up for the Virgin Media Must-See Moment award – voted for by the public. The winners will be announced on July 31, with the BBC One ceremony hosted in a closed studio by Richard Ayoade.
