Sit up and take notice
WEEKS of lockdown living have forced many of us to realise some hard home truths: we hate our sofas. It could be they’re falling apart after the extra wear and tear of staying indoors for so long. Or it could be it’s time for a change. The good news is that factories closed because of coronavirus are now reopening and those that didn’t close are getting back to normal.
Loaf’s Derbyshire furniture manufacturers are up and running again, producing made-to-order sofas and upholstered beds.
And Sofa.com was able to keep operating, with the only delays caused by fabric mills in Italy closing.
“We have stock and are absolutely fine to manufacture new pieces for customers,” says a spokesman.
Similarly, Habitat has been selling a range of 140 “ready-to-go” sofas, sofabeds and armchairs and delivering within 14 days, although made-to-order sofas are taking 10 to 12 weeks.
It’s the increased waiting time that is likely to be a problem for those keen to update their homes quickly.
At Sofa.com this is currently up to 10 weeks, especially for lines affected by the mill closures, although normal four to six-week deliveries are expected to be reinstated soon.
For those who just can’t wait that long, the company has a seven-day delivery offer for its Jack Wills sofa, a British mid-century design in textured grey or velvet navy fabric with mahogany tapered legs that it describes as “an icon in the making”.
