OCTOBER 2017:

Mike Ashley says the club is for sale for a third time.

Amanda Staveley hints she can revive a deal to buy club with sovereign wealth fund backing.

Rumours circulate that the Saudis could be behind a £340m bid and that talks have progressed well.

A £300m deal is struck with the Public Investment Fund of Saudi Arabia taking 80 per cent.

A £17m non-refundable deposit is paid to Ashley and deal is sent to the Premier League to approve, which usually takes three weeks.

Majority of Newcastle fans express backing for deal via supporters’ trust.

Amnesty International lead protests, raising issue of human rights abuses.

Widow of murdered journalist Jamal Khashoggi, who was killed in Saudi consulate, says the Premier League would be “tainted” by allowing the takeover.

An MP calls the deal “grotesque” while others question Saudis’ record on piracy and call for action.

MARCH 2019: JANUARY 2020: APRIL 2020: MAY 2020:

LEICESTER are trailing Ajax left-back Nicolas Tagliafico in case they lose Ben Chilwell.

England defender Chilwell is a target for Chelsea manager Frank Lampard, while Manchester City could also join the bidding.

Leicester are refusing to put a price on his head because they do not want to sell.

But the Foxes have previously cashed in on Harry Maguire, Riyad Mahrez and Danny Drinkwater when offers became too good to turn down.

A bid in excess of the record £80million they pocketed last summer from Manchester United for Maguire could land Chilwell. Argentina defender Tagliafico, 27, left, operated as Ajax’s left-back in their surge to the semi-finals of the Champions League last season.

BEN FOSTER has agreed a new two-year deal at Watford that will keep the goalkeeper at the club until he is at least 39.

Foster has made 150 appearances across two spells at Vicarage Road, his first a loan move from Manchester United between 2005 and 2007.

He returned to the Hornets in July 2018 after stints with Birmingham and West Brom and has since started every Premier League game for the club, keeping nine clean sheets.

Watford, who are 17th in the table, will resume their top-flight campaign at home to Leicester on June 20.

JACK GREALISH has backed Aston Villa team-mate Tyrone Mings’ decision to attend a Black Lives Matter protest.

England defender Mings, right, was part of a 4,000-strong gathering in Birmingham.

His actions drew concern over the lack of social distancing at the rally.

But skipper Grealish said: “The city where we’re from, Birmingham, is a multi-cultural city. We have people of all races

here, we accept every race, like everywhere should. It should be equal rights. “We have a person here who is a very big name in England at the moment who likes to speak out and should do. “With what’s going on in the world right now with Covid-19 and all the stuff in America, it’s not the best – but as a team and as a city we are trying to do what we can to help.”
