PM goes back to work after trim and pint

- By Macer Hall

BORIS Johnson got his hair cut and went for a pint within hours of easing his lockdown rules.

The Prime Minister showed off his newly trimmed locks during a visit to Goole in East Yorkshire.

Last week he had complained he was “starting to get dreadlocks at the back”.

But the true purpose of his trip was to promote the Government’s efforts to boost the economy.

His spokesman said: “The PM has had a haircut. He also went for a drink on Saturday evening.

“He went for a drink somewhere near Chequers.”

During his visit to Goole, he repeated his plea for the public to continue to observe social-distancing guidelines, following the reopening of many businesses.

He said: “There is a risk that some people will not obey the guidelines, that’s always going to be there. But the overwhelming majority of people have and, so far, we think that the measures and the package is working.

“But we cannot be complacent. We really can’t afford to stuff this up, to blow it now.We have got to keep going in the prudent way that we are.”

He also urged people to “maintain discipline” in order to “get back to life as close to normal as possible, as fast as possible”.

The Prime Minister’s official spokesman said police forces reported being “quieter than expected” at the weekend despite a “small number of individual incidents”.

During Mr Johnson’s visit to the Siemens rail factory site he highlighted the Government’s plans to invest more than £100million in training for young people.

Businesses offering the unpaid placements in England will receive a £1,000 bonus per trainee.

Chancellor Rishi Sunak will confirm the move for 18 to 24-year-olds in his Commons statement tomorrow.
