PICKS OF THE DAY
Documentary: Paramedics: Britain’s Lifesavers, C4, 9pm
The Covid-19 pandemic has brought to the nation’s attention a variety of real-life stories from across the emotional spectrum. From those demonstrating incredible strength in times of adversity to those who have lost so much through no fault of their own. This documentary, following West Midlands Ambulance Service at the peak of the crisis, is a microcosm of these tough times. Paramedics Karina and James (both left) respond to a call from a man who claims to be armed and is threatening suicide. Despite losing his mother to Covid-19, paramedic Richard is working on the frontline while also managing his anxiety about taking the virus home.
Quiz: University Challenge, BBC2, 8.30pm
We are right at the start of the journey to become the next University Challenge champions and both of tonight’s teams represent establishments who have won the title previously. In the second of the student quiz’s first-round matches, four students from the University of Leicester – the first winners back in 1963 – pit their wits against a team from Durham University in a bid to reach the second stage of the competition. Jeremy Paxman (left) asks the questions in his usual casual manner.
Film: Home Again, Film4, 7.05pm
Five months after separating from her husband, Alice Kinney and her daughters relocate from New York to her childhood home in Los Angeles, which belonged to her late father, Oscar-winning film director John Kinney. Eventually things take an unexpected turn when she lets three young guys move in with her. Romantic comedy, starring Reese Witherspoon (above), Michael Sheen and Candice Bergen.
Drama: The Secrets She Keeps, BBC1, 9pm
