Super Said driven to succeed for the Bees
SAID BENRAHMA is good enough to be in the Premier League next season – and he wants to get there with Brentford.
The 24-year-old is the hottest property in the Championship after establishing himself as the driving force in Brentford’s BMW-powered push towards the promised land.
The Bees must get a result against Barnsley tonight and hopeWest Brom slip up at home against QPR.
If it all goes to plan, that BMW strikeforce of Benrahma, Bryan Mbeumo and OllieWatkins – with 57 league goals between them this season – will have fired the Bees to glory. Benrahma, who has been watched by Chelsea, Arsenal and Leeds, said: “It has always been a target of mine to play in the Premier League and I hope it is with Brentford.
“It would be magnificent if we did because it would be the first time, and I am still confident.
“After the match at Stoke [a shock defeat] we had a long conversation. We really tried not to put down our spirits but to say, ‘That’s football.’ Sometimes you win, sometimes you lose.
“We really learnt from Saturday’s match. We know where we made mistakes. We are really motivated. We need to be calmer, to control our emotions, and not to look for a result but to have some distance now.”
Benrahma was born in Algeria, struggled for confidence at Nice and was continually loaned out before Brentford swooped.
That gave him confidence and he praised boss Thomas Frank for giving him the licence to play but also for his man-management after a personal tragedy.
“After my father died the manager said, basically, ‘You come back when you want to come back.’ It’s thanks to Brentford that I am where I am. I’m going to fight to help take them to the next step.”
