Mystic Meg predicts second Covid spike
IT IS QUITE impossible to understand how this country is governed – or more accurately mismanaged – unless one can grasp the crucial component of the Personal Reputation. Now yours or mine might be valueless in the scheme of things, but I refer to that of the High-and-Mighty, or H&M.
You may think an orchid is fragile. Believe me, it is built like a main battle tank compared with the fragility of the reputation of an H&M. As for value, ever heard of the Crown Jewels? They are as mere pebbles set against how the H&Ms value their precious reputations. That is why the cancellation of a project, no matter how stupid, foolish, impractical or grotesquely expensive, is nigh impossible once it has been adopted by the H&M.
After weeks of pleading by the intelligence (and intelligent) community it has finally been agreed not to permit the Chinese government offshoot Huawei to enter and dominate the inner heart of our cyber-security. The reason for the gargantuan struggle was that a number of personal and professional reputations – mostly purchased by Beijing for plump backhanders – had become involved. Still waiting in the wings is the even dafter HS2 London-Birmingham duplicate railway project. Now wholly discredited even by its own resigned engineers, HS2 has recently been assessed as no-way achievable at even £106billion, which we now cannot afford anyway. The reason no one dare put a merciful bullet through its forehead before the destruction of north-west London begins is, yes, there are peacocks with their reputations attached.
But more peacocks and more reputations than both the above together are those sheltering
behind the pretence that the Covid outbreak was skilfully handled. The Government shudders at the now unpreventable appearance of a penetrating and impartial assessment of the past seven months. But the politicos are the tip of the iceberg and can claim they were only following the best advice, or, as they put it “following the science”.
That post-mortem report will reveal that the people have been conned into unnecessary panic, ridiculous “precautions”, mind-numbing propaganda and economic ruin by blitheringly incompetent administrators, bumbling quangos and “scientists” straight out of the annals of Mystic Meg.
With the release of that report, now quite unstoppable, the “hard rain” referred to by Dominic Cummings will really fall. It is an attempt to persuade the panic and the consequent frightened obedience to stupid rules to continue that lies behind the new “scientific predictions” of a massive autumn spike in Covid.
Those analysts who were rebuffed early on, and who were proved to be right, are saying this will be mainly the annual seasonal winter flu wave. This has been a tragic but never nation-destroying phenomenon for many, many years. The chances are that these losses will be presented to us as Covid deaths – to preserve reputations on high.
