IF YOU need a clue as to how Liverpool achieved title glory this season – and to their dominance under manager Jurgen Klopp – look no further than the Shankly Gates at Anfield.

Playing in front of the Kop has long been a tough proposition for opposition teams but for those in red it is the greatest inspiration.

And since Klopp started piecing together his desired squad on Merseyside, it has become a fortress again.

Liverpool have gone 59 consecutive home league games without being on the losing side, a run that speaks volumes for the job Klopp has done. It also suggests that until someone breaks the Anfield code, the Reds will be favourites to add title No20 to their trophy collection.

The last time Liverpool tasted defeat at home was on April 23, 2017, against Crystal Palace.

POLICE have launched an investigation after Jude Bellingham became the latest star to receive racist abuse on social media.

West Midlands Police are looking into a post from an apparent Manchester United fan in the wake of Bellingham’s £26million switch to Borussia Dortmund from Birmingham.

The suspect described Bellingham as an “over-rated talent” and added “black people only think about money”.

Bellingham, 17, called the message “disgusting” as he responded: “To not rate me as a player or even dislike me as a person is fine with me.

“But how someone can use my race and disgraceful stereotypes to criticise a decision I’ve made for my career is beyond me.Times have to change. More has to be done.”

Birmingham have retired Bellingham’s No 22 shirt – despite the fact he played only 44 times for the club.

He finally joined Dortmund this week after months of speculation.

The Blues said in a statement the move was a fitting tribute to a player who had made his debut at 16 years 38 days old and was ‘one of our own.’ Bellingham joined the Birmingham academy aged seven and made his debut last August. He has scored four goals.

On their website, the club said: “His caring, humble and engaging demeanour has made him an impressive role model.

“In such a remarkably short space of time, Jude has become an iconic figure, showing what can be achieved through talent and dedication.”
