Rebekah left feeling ‘suicidal’ over claims made by pal Coleen

- By Steph Spyro

REBEKAH Vardy felt “suicidal” following the onslaught of public abuse sparked by her row with Coleen Rooney, new court documents have revealed. The friends fell out last year after Coleen, 34, shared an explosive social media post which ended by accusing Rebekah, 38, of leaking personal stories to the press. Coleen, married to former England captain Wayne Rooney, claimed on Instagram that fake stories she posted on her private account were then published in a newspaper.

Spat

She said she deliberately made stories only viewable to Rebekah – which appeared in the newspaper.

Rebekah has vehemently denied the claims and last month began a defamation action for an “unlimited” sum in “aggravated damages” against her fellowWag.

The High Court documents claim Rebekah “suffered from severe panic attacks and anxiety” as a result of the public spat. Seven months pregnant at the time, she also “had concerns about losing her baby or going into early labour” due to stress, the documents said.

Her lawyers said she has suffered “severe and extreme hostility and abuse as a result of the post” and received threats, including some against her unborn baby.

They said: “She has been targeted by online trolls and attacked on social media platforms including but not limited to Twitter and Instagram; as well as via readers’ comments on articles relating to the post.”

They also claim Rebekah’s husband, Leicester striker Jamie Vardy, 33, was targeted with verbal abuse at games that took place after the post.

Meanwhile, Rebekah’s eldest daughter had to be taken out from her school because “she was being bullied as a result” of the allegations, the 15-page writ revealed.

The documents state Rebekah was made to feel like a

“scapegoat” and claim Coleen posted “in a calculated and deliberate manner that was designed to cause very serious harm and enormous distress”.

The lawyers also said Coleen “did not contact” Rebekah before publishing the post which she shared “to millions of people without checking with the claimant whether the allegations were true or giving the claimant an opportunity to explain her position.” Rebekah has paid £10,528 in fees but it is believed her legal costs could end up being much higher. Coleen was dubbed Wagatha Christie after detailing how she “blocked everyone from viewing Instagram except one account” in order to discover who had been “consistently informing the Sun newspaper of [her] private posts and stories.” She is expected to file her defence to the case in due course.
