PICKS OF THE DAY

-

Documentary: Once Upon A Time In Iraq, BBC2, 9pm

The incredible story of the battle for Fallujah is told here through the eyewitness accounts of journalists, soldiers and civilians. Reporter Dexter Filkins and photographer Ashley Gilbertson were embedded with US Marines, with Gilbertson revealing how the decision to capture an image of an Iraqi sniper changed not only his life but the lives of the soldiers with him. Fallujah resident Nidhal Abed (left, with her son Mustafa) talks about the moment when she left her home to take her son to the doctors just a few streets away. What happened to the pair would ensure their lives would never be the same. Truly engaging viewing throughout.

Crime: Shoplifters: At War With The Law, Channel 5, 9pm

Security personnel at Coventry’s West Orchards shopping centre, including Lewis (left), receive a tip-off from Birmingham that an organised criminal gang is heading their way. In Weston Favell in Northamptonshire, security guards are under pressure when a special event brings in extra shoppers, but an elusive serial shoplifter is apprehended stealing a trolley full of goods before disappearing among the sizeable crowds.

Soap: EastEnders: Secrets From The Square, BBC1, 8pm

Only Dot and Nick Cotton and Peggy Mitchell and sons Phil and Grant can lay claim to having anything like the sort of eventful mother-son relationship on EastEnders that Kathy and Ian Beale, aka Gillian Taylforth and Adam Woodyatt (both above), have had. The pair tell Stacey Dooley all about their unique working relationship and 35-year friendship. They talk about their biggest scenes and off-screen nerves.

Soap: Emmerdale, ITV, 7pm

There are plenty of twists and turns during the first visit of the week to Emmerdale this evening. A visibly upset Belle is driven from the Woolpack after Andrea forces Jamie (Alexander Lincoln, above) to book them a romantic meal. It is then that Jamie decides enough to enough and the time has come to wrestle back control of his life. Emboldened by Jai’s advice, he puts a plan in place to do just that. But will it work?

Film: The Huntsman: Winter’s War, Film4, 6.45pm

This film is a rare thing, acting as both a prequel and a sequel to Snow White And The Huntsman. Eric and fellow warrior Sara, raised as members of Ice Queen Freya’s army, try to conceal their forbidden love as they fight to survive the wicked intentions of both Freya and her sister Ravenna. However, as war between the siblings escalates, Eric and Sara unite with Freya in an attempt to end Ravenna’s wicked reign. Fantasy adventure, with Charlize Theron (right).
