O’Brien’s Blue is Nassau Fancy

- By The Scout

DONNACHA O’BRIEN can uphold family tradition by landing another Group One contest with Fancy Blue in today’s Qatar Nassau Stakes at Glorious Goodwood.

The son of the multiple champion trainer Aidan has made giant strides in his short career.

The 22-year-old’s first Group One victory arrived when FANCY BLUE (3.15, nap) won the French Oaks at Chantilly 25 days ago.

The strength of the contest was highlighted by the runner-up Alpine Star, an impressive winner on her previous start at Royal Ascot. The third home, Peaceful, won the Irish 1,000 Guineas when Fancy Blue finished an unlucky

THE SCOUT second. Magic Wand, trained by O’Brien senior, represents the danger.

She has successfully travelled the world and has the measure of Deirdre, last year’s winner.

Lavender’s Blue, carrying the silks of Abba’s Benny Andersson, appeals as a sporting bet at 20-1.

After getting lost in the Derby, HIGHLAND CHIEF (2.45, nb) can get his career back on track in the Gordon Stakes.

English King, another to disappoint in the Derby, will be a better prospect when he has had time to strengthen up.

Paul and Oliver Cole, responsible for Highland Chief, can earlier celebrate with CELTIC ART (1.45).

The handicapper has not done him any favours – understandable as he has some smart form.

He finished the season with an excellent second behind Tammani in a Listed event at Deauville in October.

The consistent YAZAMAN (2.15, treble) can be rewarded in the Qatar Richmond Stakes.

He has run to two cracking races in defeat, including when runner-up behind Tactical at Royal Ascot and Newmarket.

RUNNING BACK (3.45) will be suited by the longer trip in the Gusbourne Nursery.
