Watch out Prime Minister ...Spitting Image is back

- By Alex Green

OUTRAGEOUS puppets of Boris Johnson, his chief adviser Dominic Cummings and the Duke of York are among the latest figures revealed as Spitting Image prepares to return. The Prime Minister’s puppet naturally features his shock of blond hair, while a brutal portrayal of Mr Cummings sees the former Vote Leave director in his trademark hoodie, plus a flamboyant silver collar and a manic stare. Prince Andrew sports a tweed shooting jacket and neckerchief. Also in line for the usual ridicule are Donald Trump, Beyonce, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex, Vladimir Putin, Bernie Sanders, Elon Musk, RuPaul, Adele, James Corden and Greta Thunberg. The show is the first original commission announced by BritBox UK, the streaming service launched by the BBC and ITV.

They have asked for two series, the first to air later this year. The original ran for 18 series between 1984 and 1996.

Spitting Image co-creator Roger Law is back on board for the show, which was watched by an incredible 15 million viewers in its heyday.

He said: “The new Spitting Image will be global through a uniquely British eye.

Vegetables

“It will be more outrageous, audacious and salacious than the previous incarnation.”

The show famously featured Margaret Thatcher in a man’s suit treating her Cabinet – “the vegetables” – with contempt.

John Major was totally grey, with a penchant for peas, and the Queen Mother slugged from a gin bottle.

The show is produced by Avalon, whose credits include Taskmaster and Last Week Tonight With John Oliver.
