Animals: Paul O’Grady For The Love Of Dogs: What Happened Next, ITV, 8pm

Comedian Paul O’Grady continues to catch up with some of the most memorable dogs he has met during the eight years he has spent filming his charming show at Battersea Dogs and Cats Home. In the third episode of the series, Paul has a heartwarmi­ng reunion with Whisper, the most anxious dog he met during his time at Battersea, and finds out how a puppy born with a missing paw is enjoying its new life. Plus, Paul catches up with the awe-inspiring Cookie (left), the Staffie who now works as a prison sniffer dog, and Max, an obese dog who needed a diet as well as a new home. Television to warm the heart.

Sport: Cricket: Today At The Test, BBC2, 7pm

Fresh from getting his hands on the Wisden Trophy for a series win against West Indies, Joe Root (left) and his England team are back in action against Pakistan today. Here, the BBC team bring us the best of the opening day’s play in the first Test in the three-match series, taking place at Emirates Old Trafford in Manchester. The sides have been very evenly matched in this format over recent years, with the last two series between the nations ending in draws.

Soap: Emmerdale, ITV, 7pm

Who knew a damaged arm could change someone’s life so drasticall­y? Nate and Tracy go to the hospital to get her wrist treated. But after a urine test, the pair (Jurell Carter and Amy Walsh, both above) are stunned to learn that she’s pregnant. How will they take the news? It is not a good night for Gabby either as she is dejected to discover that Bernice has decided to sell the salon.

Film: Gods Of Egypt, Film4, 6.35pm

In this middle-of-the-road 2016 fantasy adventure, an ancient Egyptian god is driven into exile when his evil brother murders their father and seizes his throne. He enlists the aid of a human thief in restoring justice, and in return offers to help the mortal to bring his murdered lover back to life. Starring Nikolaj CosterWald­au, Brenton Thwaites, Gerard Butler (above) and Chadwick Boseman.

Period drama: Harlots, BBC2, 9pm and 9.50pm

This will be a good one to get involved with right from the off with the first two episodes shown back-to-back tonight. Brothel owner Margaret is on the threshold of moving into a more upmarket house in Soho when her premises are raided. Fined for keeping an obscene and bawdy house and unable to make the final payment for her new establishm­ent she is forced to utilise her greatest asset, her daughter. Lesley Manville (right) and Samantha Morton star.
