PICKS OF THE DAY
Film: The Damned United, BBC4, 9pm
Leeds United recently sealed a return to the Premier League and they deserve their place at the top table of English football. This sporting drama charts one of the most controversial periods in the club’s history and is led by the brilliant Michael Sheen (left), who stars as the incomparable Brian Clough. Following his acrimonious split from Derby County and a brief spell at Brighton & Hove Albion, Clough arrived at Elland Road with the football world in shock after he had previously been an outspoken critic of the club. He struggles to find allies among the playing staff and is soon on his way. Fact-based tale that also stars Timothy Spall, Jim Broadbent and Colm Meaney.
Documentary: Inside The Bruderhof, BBC1, 10.45pm
The story of a community of radical Christians living a remarkable back-tobasics life in a quiet British village. The 300 residents of Darvell in Sussex – one of 23 Bruderhof communities around the world – live outside mainstream society. They have relinquished money and possessions to live as disciples of Jesus, running an almost self-sufficient community. The film follows three of the residents, including inquisitive 18-year-old Hannah (left).
Drama: Unsaid Stories, Lavender, ITV, 9pm
The last of four short dramas addressing topics relating to Black Lives Matter centres on an uncomfortable conversation between mixed-race Jordan, who has recently had a baby with a black man, and her mother Lyndsey. As things progress, they are forced to evaluate their relationship as a seemingly immovable wedge appears between them. Written by and starring Nicole Lecky (above right).
Property: Escape To The Chateau: Make Do And Mend, C4, 8pm
Dick and Angel Strawbridge (above) help Xuxa and Simon, who are keen to transform the Second World War air raid shelter in their garden into a craft room – the only problem is, the space is tiny, so Angel thinks up some creative space-saving solutions. They also get requests to help Lyra and her dad James, who want to make a new chicken coop.
Quiz: QI, BBC2, 9pm
This has been a series of QI like none of the 17 which have gone before it, what with the episodes filmed without an audience for the very first time in the show’s history. Here, viewers are offered a selection of the best moments from the recent run. Host Sandi Toksvig (right) asks questions connected to the letter R, as long-serving Alan Davies and the guest panellists try to come up with interesting, pointworthy answers – all the while avoiding the most obvious ones that spring to mind.
