WOLVES LINE UP A NU DEAL

£5m a year and transfer cash to keep boss

- By Dave Armitage

WORRIED Wolves will offer manager Nuno Espirito Santo a bumper £5million-a-year deal to keep him at Molineux.

Nuno has less than 12 months left on his contract and is urging the club to buy quality players to strengthen his thin, battle-weary squad.

Wolves will draw up a plan to keep the 46-year-old, along with a promise to give him the men he needs to try to crack the top six.

Nuno, who has worked miracles since joining three years ago, saw his side crash out of the Europa League quarter-finals to Sevilla on Tuesday, right, after a mammoth 383-day season which started in July last year.

Wolves traversed that 59-game onslaught and still managed to finish seventh in the Premier League for the second successive campaign after clinching promotion from the Championship in Nuno’s first season.

Nuno said: “We need more players to help. It’s a small squad, we must be very proud. We must make good decisions so we don’t make the same mistakes as before.

“We need players that can make us stronger – no doubt about it. We operate here on common sense and dialogue. Let’s have a break then look at our future and what we need.”

The former Porto manager enjoys cult status at Molineux and the power brokers there know his astonishing transformation of Wolves has not gone unnoticed by other clubs at home and abroad.

Nuno would not be short of takers should the club fail to convince him that they want to help him get to the next level.

Eleven of the 14 players who featured against Crusaders in Wolves’ opening Europa League game took part against Sevilla.

Nuno used only 21 players in the Premier League, the fewest in the division, and went strong in his selection in Europe, meaning eight of the squad made more than 50 appearances across the season.
