Craig: My tears of joy after moob surgery
CRAIG Revel Horwood has revealed how having man boobs left him so crippled with insecurity that he cried with happiness after breast reduction surgery.
The Strictly Come Dancing judge admitted going to extremes to hide his moobs by wearing braces under his T-shirts.
Craig said having the tissue removed in 2010 gave him a new lease of life. He urged men with the condition – gynaecomastia – to be aware of the treatment. The 55-year-old also spoke of his battle with body dysmorphia and anorexia.
He told the White Wine Question Time podcast that he put on weight after giving up dancing.
He said: “I went on to have man boobs which I couldn’t stand so I had them removed. I had breast tissue which I could never get rid of, no matter what.
“This happens to a lot of men and they won’t talk about it.” He added: “Just taking the bandages off, I started crying because it was the first time I had a flat chest.
“It made me feel confident and gave me a new lease of life, I just felt invincible. I was free of something – baggage, literally.
“It’s horrific when men aren’t supposed to have them but it’s a natural thing. It’s important they can change their lives.”
Craig added: “I had body dysmorphia. I became anorexic. I wasn’t eating properly because I was thinking I was fat but of course my hips were bigger than most boys’ hips and I was always comparing myself to them. That was my biggest error.
“It led to me skipping loads of meals, being scared to eat in case I put any weight on.
“As soon as you stop comparing yourself and start becoming yourself you can live a much more normal life and it took me ages to learn that.”
