From the Western Cape’s Beyerskloof winery, this ruby-red pinotage is already being hailed as the best vintage in years despite recent difficult growing conditions. Strong flavours of plum, cherry and velvety tannins combine to create a medium-bodied cracker. Available from Sainsbury’s.
Queen Bee Viognier 2020 (£12, 12.5%)
A characterful viognier with a smattering of chardonnay, Queen Bee with its enticing aroma and crisp finish will have you pouring another glass faster than a leaping Springbok. Aromas of apricots, cloves and peaches. Available from Laithwaites and Direct Wines.
Neil Ellis Groenekloof Sauvignon Blanc 2018 (£13.75, 13.5%)

Kleine Zalze Chenin Blanc Cellar Selection 2019 (£11.20, 13%) Another wine made with grapes from the Stellenbosch (and neighbouring Paarl) region at a family-run winery in the heart of the Cape winelands. This fabulous chenin blanc boasts aromas of lime, citrus and tropical zest with a rich, pleasurable finish. Journey’s End Bluegum Merlot 2017 (£11.50, 14%)
This stunning merlot from South Africa’s cool, coastal Stellenbosch hills is packed full of delicious blackcurrant and raspberry flavours with hints of nutmeg, vanilla and white pepper.
