Melania on Trump: You know what he’s thinking

- By Christopher Bucktin US Editor

MELANIA Trump has called for an end to the Wisconsin race rioting, urging Americans to live up to “our standard ideals”.

The US First Lady also praised her husband’s “total honesty” and told the Republican National Convention that “you always know” what the President is thinking.

She spoke as violence erupted in Kenosha, Wisconsin, for the third night following Sunday’s shooting of unarmed black man Jacob Blake by police officers.

Mrs Trump, 50, said on Tuesday: “I urge people to come together in a civil manner so we can work and live up to our standard American ideals.

Proud

“I also ask people to stop the violence and looting being done in the name of justice and never make assumptions based on the colour of a person’s skin.”

Unlike the President, Mrs Trump tackled the nation’s tensions full on, telling the convention: “Like many of you, I have reflected on the racial unrest in our country.

“We are not proud of parts of our history. I encourage you to focus on the future while still learning from the past.”

She painted herself as a wife and a mother during her 26-minute address, outlining why women should vote for her husband in November and addressing areas where he is rated weak among women voters.

She praised the President as someone who “makes no secrets about how he feels about things” and said: “Total honesty is what we as citizens deserve from our President.

“Whether you like it or not you always know what he’s thinking.”

Expressing compassion over the coronavirus outbreak which has killed more than 178,000 Americans she said: “I know many people are anxious. Some feel helpless.

“I want you to know you’re not alone.”

It came on a night when Republicans tried to set a positive and optimistic tone with Mr Trump pardoning a black bank robber and granting citizenship to five new Americans in the

White House.

His wife did not mention the

Trumps’ 14-year-old son Barron by name to the convention but praised motherhood and said her husband was a man who would never stop fighting for families.

She said: “To mothers and parents everywhere, you’re warriors. In my husband you have a president who will not stop fighting for you and your family.

“I see how hard he works each day and night and despite the attacks from the media he will not give up.

“In fact, if you tell him it cannot be done, he just worked harder.”

Mrs Trump also said her husband backed women by giving them highranking jobs in his administration.

Grateful

She said: “Donald is a husband that supports me in all that I do. He has built an administration with unprecedented number of women in leadership roles and fostered an environment where the American people are always the priority.

“He welcomes different points of view and encourages thinking outside of the box.”

Asking voters to return the Trump family to the White House for another four years, she said: “I know I speak for my husband and the family when we say we’re so grateful that you trusted him to be your President.

“I am here because we need my husband to be our President and commander-in-chief for four more years.”

But Mrs Trump’s decision to speak from the White House Rose Garden has angered Democrats, who called it an inappropriate use of government resources for political purposes.
