CHILWELL TROPHY TARGET

- By Matthew Dunn

BEN CHILWELL sealed his £50million move to Chelsea and set his sights on challenging for honours.

“I’m looking forward to being a part of this young, dynamic squad led by Frank Lampard as we challenge for honours next season,” he said.

Chilwell’s arrival from Leicester is Lampard’s third summer recruit following winger Hakim Ziyech, 27, from Ajax and striker Timo Werner, 24, from RB Leipzig – a clear sign the club are no

longer interested in second best.

Chilwell said: “Lampard does play the younger players if they are good enough and, just from speaking to him, I’m really excited to be here.

“I think the way the gaffer sets his teams up suits my game perfectly.”

The left-back,

23, passed a medical despite a heel injury that has kept him out of the latest England squad.

It means he will get more time to settle into Chelsea’s Cobham training ground and establish himself at a club that have had a mixed effect on former Foxes in the past.

N’Golo Kante won back-to-back Premier League titles after leaving Leicester for Chelsea in 2016 but Danny Drinkwater has made just 12 appearances since joining a year later.

Chelsea director Marina Granovskaia has no doubts that Chilwell will be a success, adding: “We are confident Ben will adapt very quickly to being a Chelsea player and, with the fixture programme for 2020-21 especially busy, he is a fantastic addition to the squad needed to challenge for honours.”
