A BOY of seven was drowned by his mother who hanged herself in an apparent murder-suicide, it was revealed yesterday.

The double tragedy was discovered the day after banking analyst Yulia Gokcedag and her son Timur were reported missing.

Increasingly concerned for their welfare, officers broke into Yulia’s £700,000 apartment close to London’s finance district in the early hours of August 13.

They found the bodies of mother and son, said Scotland Yard.A spokesman said: “Officers forced entry to the property and found Yulia and her son Timur unresponsive.

“Both were pronounced dead at the scene and an investigation was launched by the Met’s Specialist Crime Command. Post mortem examinations determined the cause of death for Yulia to have been hanging and Timur’s cause of death was drowning.”

The spokesman added: “Detectives investigating are not seeking any other persons in connection with the deaths.”

A full inquest into the deaths of Yulia, 35, and her son and is due to take place later this year.

A graduate in finance and economics studies at the Moscow Financial University,Yulia studied at the London School of Economics before working as a banker at Barclays.

She had previously worked at two financial services companies in south-east Russia.

Last year, she joined Moody’s Investors Service as a banking data analyst. She lived with her son in a flat in the Isle of Dogs, around two miles from the CanaryWharf financial district.

According to her social media profile, she had been married. Yulia had shared Facebook photos of days out with her husband in London, a trip to Turkey and the couple cradling her son Timur after his birth in 2013.

Scotland Yard said the police watchdog was informed of the investigation as Yulia and Timur had been reported as missing.

He added: “As is routine, the Metropolitan Police’s Directorate of Professional Standards was informed. A referral was made to the Independent Office for Police Conduct who referred it back to the local professional standards unit who are investigating.”

Tragic...the bodies of Yulia and seven-yearold son Timur were discovered at their £700,000 home in London, far left. Left, Timur as a baby
