No surrender to anarchy vows Trump in riot city

- From Christopher Bucktin US Editor

DONALD Trump yesterday visited the latest US city rocked by riots and looting and saw the violent aftermath following the shooting of a black man by white police.

The President flew to Kenosha, Wisconsin, meeting colleagues of the officer who shot Jacob Blake, 29, while promising “no tolerance” for anarchy.

He did not visit the victim, who remains in hospital paralysed.

Trump had expressed interest in meeting with the Blake family, but the plan was scrapped as they wanted to have a lawyer present, the president claimed.

The US leader’s tour yesterday came despite objections of local leaders and after he defended the actions of vigilante Kyle Rittenhouse, who is accused of killing two protesters and injuring another with a semi- automatic rifle. Trump walked through burned out buildings alongside Attorney General Bill Barr and acting Department of Homeland Security Secretary Chad Wolf.

He said: “Some people think those are two terrible words, law and order. I don’t think they’re terrible at all. They are beautiful.”

Trump has tried to portray himself as the “law and order president” during his re- election campaign. He added: “You have to be decisive, you have to be tough and you have to be strong. You have to be willing to bring people in. Our National Guard is great. Our military is beyond any military in the world.

“We are ready to go with whatever power we need. This is going to heal very quickly.”

Trump claimed credit for easing violence in Kenosha saying he sent the National Guard into the city but they were deployed by the governor.
