Fergie’s ‘ hairdryer’ blast at developers in row over homes
SIR Alex Ferguson is teaming up with neighbours to stop homes being built next to his £ 2.3million property.
The former Manchester United boss described as “astonishing” a plan to demolish a house on his street and replace it with two luxury new- builds.
The fiery Scot, 78, known for his “hairdryer” half- time team talks, lives in upmarket Wilmslow, Cheshire, with wife Cathy.
In July they lost a battle to stop neighbours building a mansion they said was too close to their land.
Now Sir Alex has joined with other residents in opposing a proposal for the two five- bedroom homes to replace a rundown 1930s property.
His handwritten note registers his “grievance” at such an “astonishing” idea, claiming the character of the
road will be damaged. He also protested at increased traffic and loss of trees.
The planning application has been submitted by Henderson Homes.
The objection letter sent from the Fergusons’ address to Cheshire East Council reads: “On hearing of a new proposal to build two houses on the site, I felt I must register my grievance at such an astonishing idea. First of all the owners of the property have shown no respect for their neighbours nor have they realised the impact this development has in the number of cars entering this site.
“It really destroys the character of the road and also the nearness to their neighbours next door will be suffocating.”
Sir Alex, who retired from Old Trafford in 2013 after 27 years, added: “I must draw your attention to the removal of trees.”
But a design statement said: “The quantity of proposed trees will exceed the trees to be removed.”
More than 20 people have objected and the council will make a decision next month.
Henderson Homes said: “Our proposals support the Government’s ‘ brownfield first’ strategy to develop existing sites occupied by derelict housing in order to preserve the green belt.”
