Call to back businesses

- AMANDA MILLING Tory Party co- chairman

EVERY year Small Business Saturday plays a vital role in reminding us how important our independent shops, hairdressers, pubs, restaurants and manufacturers are to our high streets and the country’s economy.

The pandemic has made this year one of the most difficult for businesses large and small. Despite the challenges they have rolled up their sleeves, adapted their business models and made their businesses Covid- secure. This, alongside government support, has protected millions of jobs and livelihoods.

Businesses are the backbone of our country. They create economic growth, employ millions of people and pay the taxes that fund our schools, hospitals and police. Small businesses make a huge contribution to our country and it is vital today more than ever that we show them our support on the high street and online.

It’s why I have formed a team of Conservative Small Business Ambassadors, made up of representatives from every region of the country, to help bang the drum for business by speaking to them and feeding back the issues businesses are facing to the heart of government.

Small Business Saturday is an important reminder that these businesses are the lifeblood of our communities and it is important we celebrate them not just today, but all year round. They will be key to helping the country to build back stronger – by creating jobs and growing the economy.

As the country adapts to life in tiers, I know that the next few months will be difficult for small businesses as we continue to work to control the virus over winter, ensuring it doesn’t spiral out of control.

However, the Conservative Party remains resolute in our support for small businesses, which is why I am delighted that this team of Small Business Ambassadors will work to promote and support businesses across the country.
