Documentary: Chitty Flies Again With David Walliams, Channel 4, 7.30pm
To celebrate the 50th anniversary of the iconic musical film Chitty Chitty Bang Bang, the comedy actor, children’s author and die- hard Chitty fan attempts an engineering feat like no other – bring the magic of this timeless classic to life by building a real- life Chitty Chitty Bang Bang car. To help him in this world first, madcap experiment, he recruits aircraft engineer Tony Hoskins and a class of enthusiastic eight- year- old pupils. Along the way David ( left) delves into the history of this timeless gem, from its inception by James Bond author Ian Fleming, to its adaption to the screen by literary legend Roald Dahl.

As a situation crops up, Gary takes control but is thwarted by copper Craig, whose intervention leads to Gary’s arrest. At the police station, Gary is questioned. Could the game be up for the Cobbles wheeler- dealer? Meanwhile, Steve shares a fundraising idea in Oliver’s memory. Elsewhere, Dev annoys his neighbours by fraternising with Ray but it all comes crashing down when Roy ( David Neilson, left) reveals that planners have vetoed Ray’s scheme.
The Greatest Showman, Channel 4, 5.30pm
After losing his job as a bank clerk, PT Barnum creates and develops his circus in New York in the mid- 1800s with the help of playwright Phillip Carlyle and an adopted family of entertainers shunned by society. Debut director Michael Gracey’s visually resplendent and lavish musical drama stars among others Hugh Jackman, Zac Efron, Michelle Williams, Rebecca Ferguson and Zendaya.

Inventor Caractacus Potts rescues an old car from the scrapheap, only to discover it has magical, gravitydefying powers. Meanwhile, Baron Bomburst, the blundering ruler of Vulgaria, will do anything to get his greedy hands on it. Children’s musical adventure, based on the book by Ian Fleming, starring Dick Van Dyke, Lionel Jeffries, Sally Ann Howes, Gert Frobe, Benny Hill and James Robertson Justice.
