Wasps worry about England man Willis after revenge win

- By Neil Squires

WASPS are set to discover in the next 48 hours whether they will be without Jack Willis for a prolonged spell.

The flanker went off with a back problem at half- time in the 34- 5 victory over champions Exeter at the

Ricoh Arena. And with England squad mate Alfie Barbeary going under the knife today to sort out an ankle issue, Wasps are anxious not to lose Willis as well.

“He was struggling,” said Wasps head coach Lee Blackett. “It looks muscular so hopefully he’s not too serious.”

James Gaskell and Simon McIntyre both scored two tries in what was an emphatic revenge win after last season’s Premiership final defeat. “It was a slap in the face,” said Exeter director of rugby Rob Baxter.

“We have just got to accept it. We have lost plenty of games before and we have always come back and ended up winnin winning Premierships and European C Cups.”

Sale interim h head coach Paul Deacon played down the last- minute bra brawl which marred his side’s 22 22- 19 win at

Gloucester. Glouceste Cherry & Whites c centre Billy Twelvet Twelvetrees was sinbinned for sparking the melee, shoving a Sale water carrier over the advert advertising hoardings after th the support staff member h had thrown the ball away to prevent a quick throw- in. “Em Emotions boil over and I think a lot of people make it a bigg bigger issue than it actually is,” sa said Deacon.

“I don don’t think there was any anything untoward.”

Leinster Lein succumbed to th their first defeat in 27 P Pro14 games, losin losing 35- 24 at home again against Connacht. DOUBLE: James Gaskell was key to Wasps’ win
